Cosimo Giannini, MD, PhD, is Professor of Pediatrics and Pediatric Endocrinologist at the Pediatric Clinic and the Regional Center for Pediatric Endocrinology, University of Chieti, Italy.
He serves as Chair of the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE) Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism School (DOM School), an educational ESPE initiative dedicated to training and mentoring future experts in pediatric endocrinology through international collaboration.
Professor Giannini is a board-certified Pediatrician and Pediatric Endocrinologist with extensive clinical and research experience in pediatric endocrinology, diabetes, obesity, and metabolic diseases. He has proven expertise in the diagnosis and management of complex endocrine disorders, pediatric diabetes, and metabolic complications, as well as a strong background in national and international clinical trials conducted in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards.
During his ESPE Clinical Fellowship training, carried out at the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom (2010–2011), and subsequently the research associate training period carried out at Yale–New Haven Hospital, Yale University, USA (2011–2013), he was actively involved in advanced clinical care and research activities. His clinical expertise includes comprehensive management of pediatric endocrine disorders, such as type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus, pediatric obesity and metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance and beta-cell dysfunction, growth and pubertal disorders, multidisciplinary care of children with metabolic and endocrine complications, and long-term follow-up of pediatric patients with chronic endocrine diseases.
Professor Giannini is the author of more than 130 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact international journals, with a total of 4,197 citations and an h-index of 38.
He is an active member of several national and international scientific societies, including the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE), the Italian Society of Pediatrics (SIP), the Italian Society for Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology (ISPED), and the Italian Society for Research in Pediatrics (SIRP).
He has received several prestigious national and international awards, including the ESPE Young Investigator Award (Milan, 2013) and the Italian Society of Pediatrics “Pioneers of Pediatrics” Award (Bologna, 2013).
